Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept insurance?
We do not accept insurance at this time and are considered an out-of-network provider. We are private pay only accepting debit card, credit card, HSA card, and FSA card payments through Ivy Pay. If you are interested in reimbursement for an out-of-network provider, we can prepare a Super Bill for you to present to your insurance. Families are responsible for handling Super Bills with insurance and for investigating other speech-language services their insurance or community programs may offer.
As of September 1, 2024, Playing Our Part Speech Therapy, P.C. will no longer provide Super Bills.
Why don't you accept insurance?
P.O.P. Speech Therapy is private pay which allows us more flexibility. With private pay, services can begin immediately and together, we will create your child's treatment plan. Insurance is not controlling requirements for eligibility, number of sessions, or duration of sessions. Communication comes directly from me, Jennifer, versus many insurance companies that will place you on hold for several minutes or endlessly redirect you between departments.
I am unsure if my child needs services. Should I still reach out?
Absolutely! We offer a free 15-20 minute consultation.
Keep an eye out for our screening events. This is for children who have speech sound errors. Screenings last for about 20 minutes. Families will receive a short report and offered a consult to discuss the results. Give us a call!
*A screening is not the same as an evaluation. Families who choose to have a speech sound screening are not guaranteed a weekly session time slot with us. Please ask about our availability if you are interested in moving forward.
I was advised to wait and see before receiving an evaluation, now what?
To wait and see is a risky approach to a child's speech and language development. The first 5 years are essential for learning. Why wait when there are strategies that we can implement NOW?
My child was evaluated through the school district/private clinic but did not qualify (or was exited). Can I still receive an evaluation with Playing Our Part Speech Therapy?
Definitely! School districts and insurance companies have specific requirements as to what qualifies a child and what determines continued need for service. Contact us today about an evaluation.

I live outside of California. Why are virtual services limited to only California?
Currently, Speech-Language Pathologists are only permitted to provide teletherapy to clients that are located in the state in which their license is held. For Playing Our Part Speech Therapy, our license is in California. We plan to gain additional state licenses in the future.
What are the benefits to teletherapy?
*Available to those attending sessions in CA. You do not have to be in the Yucaipa/Calimesa area for virtual services*
Although teletherapy will not be recommended to ALL clients, it can be an option for some. We will decide together if teletherapy is an appropriate service delivery option for your child. Here are reasons why some families choose teletherapy:
- Convenience for families is one of the most popular benefits. Families can carry on with their homelives while their child is receiving speech services. No need to drive miles away, wait in a waiting room, and then drive all the way back home (and hope you remembered the snacks for that drive!). Speech sessions can be as easy as turning on your laptop. If you are a parent overflowing with appointments and the never-ending demands of parenthood, then teletherapy can be a great way to save you time while still being able to provide your child with quality speech services.
- If you have a child or family member who is immunocompromised, telehealth allows speech therapy to continue without having to meet in person.
- Live far away with limited access to speech therapists? Since services can be conducted online, teletherapy is a perfect solution.
- Older children, shy children, and children with anxiety may prefer online interaction.
- If your family travels, it may be difficult to stay consistent with speech sessions or keep the same therapist. As long as you are in California and can connect online, problem solved!
How is Playing our Part Speech Therapy different than my child's current services in the schools or private clinic?
We offer sessions with families in mind. Your child is with his/her family for several hours a week - wouldn't it be great to get the family on board with understanding strategies? You are a welcome participant in our sessions so your child can get the most out of therapy sessions. You can implement strategies from the session within your daily routine. This allows us to promote speech and language skills that can easily be embedded in your home routines. You benefit from smoother parent collaboration as we are teaching communication skills right in front of you and with you. We can better monitor carryover skills while keeping you informed throughout our time together.
My child goes to daycare/private school, can speech services be held at the daycare/private school?
We are absolutely open to this set up. Let's have a conversation with your daycare provider/private school to see if there are any restrictions or concerns. Once all parties are in agreement, we can discuss therapy day and time.
My child just received an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) device. Can you assist us with using the device at home?
I would be delighted! Working with families on how to use AAC devices is one of the many pleasures of being a speech-language pathologist. AAC devices can seem intimidating and confusing at first. But once we dive in together, we can discover the benefits of having family members understand how to use the device and what to expect with AAC. Check out our services page for direct therapy and parent coaching call options.
Do you offer individual therapy?
